Intermediate Cup 2021

Aston Park retain Intermediate Cup

Aston Park, the holders, have retained the Aylesbury and District Intermediate Cup 2021 with a 5-3 sets win over Great Missenden on Monday 13 September at Halton. This comes after strong wins over Chesham 1879 (8-0 sets) and then Chesham Bois (7-1 sets).

On the way to the final, Nathan Glynn, Sue Hoey, Andrew Nurse and Pamela Reid were in the winning teams. However, Andrew Nurse sustained an injury just before the final and Elliott Abdey was asked to join the team for the final, pairing up with Pamela Reid for the first time.

Great Missenden proved to be very tough opposition on the Astroturf at Halton but both Nathan Glynn/ Sue Hoey and Elliott Abdey/Pamela Reid won 2.5 sets each and this resulted in an excellent 5-3 sets win overall.

As a small village club these wins against large clubs Chesham 1879, Chesham Bois and Great Missenden are very satisfying.

Well done Aston Park Intermediate Cup Team - the club is very proud of your achievements.

Ladies 1 remain undefeated and are Division 3 Champions

Ladies 1 (Sarah Baker, Anna Fryer, Anne Green, Sue Hoey and Pamela Reid) have made it seven wins from seven matches.

Victories over Cheddington 1 (4.5/3.5 sets), Thame 2 (5.5 /2.5 sets), Haddenham 1 (6.5/1.5 sets), Leighton Buzzard 1 (6.5 /1.5 sets), Chesham 1879 firsts (5/3 sets), Linslade (4.5 sets/2.5 sets-rain interrupted) and Tring 2 (6/2 sets) mean the team remain undefeated and have won Division 3.

All five regular players have contributed to these excellent wins and we are also grateful to Sarah Beaman for playing the final match against Tring. it has been an outstanding performance from everyone. We believe it is the first time one of Aston Park’s Ladies Teams will have achieved promotion to Division 2.

Mixed 2 are Division 6 Champions

Mixed 2 ended the season as Division 6 Champions having remained unbeaten throughout the season: played 7, won 6, drawn 1, lost 0. A great result and a big thank you to Pete, Mark, Jack, Adrian, Anne, Anna, Kerry and Sarah who all played a part in our success.

Enjoyable tennis and a great group of people - well done everyone! Looking forward to the winter league now and then moving up into Division 5 next summer.

Mixed 1 team retain Division 3 place

Congratulations to Aston Park’s Mixed 1 Team who continue to hold their own in the highest divisions of the Aylesbury and District League. After only two loses all summer to the highest ranked teams (Princes Risborough 1 and Wingrave 1), who have won all their matches convincingly, Aston Park Mixed 1 finished in third place.

The small squad of Sarah Baker, Sue Hoey, Pamela Reid, Michael Chase, Nathan Glynn, Andrew Nurse and Dan Norton committed to playing every match and have shown their competitive spirit in achieving wins from some very close encounters.

Well played team and hopefully this excellent run of form can be continued in the Winter 2021/22 League.

Bucks Medley team finish mid-table in division 3

Aston Park’s Bucks Medley Team has finished mid-table in Division 3 after 3 wins and 3 loses which is an excellent achievement given the strength of the teams in the Buckinghamshire League.  Captains, Nathan and Pamela, have utilised a large squad of individuals allowing many to play these matches which include mixed doubles as well as ladies and men’s doubles.

Fortunately after three seasons of travelling to Burnham and facing an exceptionally talented young team, Burnham will be promoted to Division 2 and we are unlikely to have play them again as they will surely reach Division 1 and stay there.

The Medley has been a popular format as it is very different from the Aylesbury and District League matches and there is talk of entering a second team for Summer 2022.
