Ladies 1 (Sarah B, Sue H, Pamela, Anne and Sarah M) top Division 3 as England enters a 2nd lockdown. Wins over Chesham 1879 (5-3 sets) and Princes Risborough (7.5 to 0.5 sets) suggest the team should be able to hold their own in Division 3, following promotion from Division 4 last winter.
Ladies 1 remained undefeated for the winter 2019-2020 season with a possible 23 points out of 24. Congratulations to the regulars- Sarah Baker, Anne Green, Sue Hoey, Sarah Miller and Pamela Reid. However, injuries also meant the Ladies 2 players also contributed key sets to help secure these wins.
After leading the League Table since before Christmas, Mixed 3 arrived at the final reckoning with their postponed match v Prestwood to be played on September 8th. We had 17 points; they had 14, but with two matches in hand. A win for us in this encounter would secure the trophy for Aston Park.
The match was a classic, with both teams taking it in turn to surge ahead, only to be caught up and overtaken by the dogged determination of the opposition.
With Prestwood leading 3.5 to 2.5 sets, Glen and Elliot at 5-0, Chris and Pete at 3-1 in the last two sets and with the momentum most definitely with Aston Park, the trophy was within our grasp. But then... disaster. The floodlights went off.
The only thing that we could do was to declare the match a draw. With Elliot and Glen on a roll, that set was conceded to us and although Pete and Chris were pretty sure things would continue to go their way, the feisty pair from Prestwood had come from behind too many times during the evening to concede that set too. And with the twists and turns that both teams had experienced throughout the match an equitable draw was perhaps the fairest outcome. However, it lost us the trophy. Prestwood went on to win both their outstanding matches in convincing style 8-0, 8-0! Congratulations Lee on a very successful season.
Congratulations too to Glen, Chris, Louise, Tom, Jack, Richard, Adrian, Pete and Elliot for an outstanding season. When we entered a third mixed last September we weren’t even sure we would be able to complete the season, we had so few players. Who could have imagined then, that we would be competing for the trophy right down to our very last match. Ah well .... Next year perhaps.

Due to the fielding of ineligible players by opposition teams, Aston Park have been awarded the Intermediate Cup for 2019. Aston Park defeated both Cublington and Princes Risborough to reach the final but both other semi-finalists have been disqualified and the Cup has now been awarded to Aston Park.
Congratulations to the team members Sarah Baker, Tim Gill, Michael Chase and Pamela Reid. The trophy was presented to the team on 10 September 2019 at Chesham Bois.
